What's available

Red Road Export Features

The New Cinema Fund usually contributes between 15%-50% of the production budget for features. Funding is usually provided through equity investment.

Feature documentaries

The New Cinema Fund has supported several feature documentaries, including Touching the Void (Kevin MacDonald), Deep Water (Louise Osmond, Jerry Rothwell) and Diameter of the Bomb (Steven Silver, Andrew Quigley).

Completion funds for features

The New Cinema Fund offers support for feature films that need post-production funding. Producers can apply for funds as long as there is still creative work to be completed on the film, the film has not been screened at any festival and the picture is not "locked". Funding is not available to cover print and advertising costs.

Pilots

We run a discretionary pilots scheme for features which are under consideration by the New Cinema Fund or Premiere Fund. Pilot funding is offered on an 'invitation' only basis and direct applications are not accepted.

Pilot funding covers direct production costs up to £10,000. Funding is usually made through equity investment, repayable when principal photography starts on a connected feature.

Warp X

Warp X is a low-budget feature film scheme set up by the New Cinema Fund and FilmFour. Warp X aims to invest £4.5 million to support and nurture film writers, directors and producers. Warp X is co-financed by EM-Media and Screen Yorkshire. Warp X has a distribution agreement with Optimum Releasing.

Short films

The New Cinema Fund supports more short films than any other organisation in the UK. Funding is provided in a number of different ways.

  • Digital Shorts - a nation wide scheme producing over 100 shorts a year and providing training for new filmmakers.
  • Cinema Extreme – funding for creative filmmakers, with past successes including Oscar®-winning Wasp (Andrea Arnold).
  • Short Completion Fund – funding for films that have been shot but are yet to be completed for release.
